Gordes: The hilltop village

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in France, perched on a rock. It is a village that can be seen from far away , which is sheltered by the castle formerly used to protect the vulnerable junction with the plateau.

Where is it located?

Gordes is a French commune located in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur region , it is located between the biosphere reserve of the Luberon Regional Natural Park and that of Mont Ventoux.

Particularities

A true cultural place, Gordes is full of history and monuments to visit , it has a strong heritage: two abbeys, a castle, many old hamlets, water and windmills, washhouses and hundreds of huts in dry stone.

History

To protect the barbarian troops who attack villages in the fifth century, people have regained the highlights to take refuge on the rocks or hills of Gordes Oppède. These eagle nests will become the perched villages of today.
